Yangzhou Jinling received orders for 8 dual-fuel stainless steel chemical ships
Essberger Group has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with Yangzhou Jinling for the IMO II stainless steel chemical ships to be equipped with LNG dual-fuel propulsion systems with Finland/Sweden 1A ice class specifications. The new ship will be optimised in hull design and equipment to improve energy efficiency by at least 30 per cent and will also be able to use shore power connections during freight. Delivers of the new vessels are expected to begin in mid-2023 and will be operated by E&S Tankers, a joint venture of the Essberger Group, to kick-start fleet renewal. As part of the German government's implementation of the "Transport and Fuel Strategy" (MKS), the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure will subsidize new shipbuilding projects at a cost of 1.58 million euros per ship. The financing measures are coordinated by NOW GMBH. Separately, Marine engineering company FKAB Marine Design has confirmed that it has been selected by the Essberger Group as the designer for the new shipbuilding project from initial concept to final product. FKAB noted that the new ship design will focus on reducing environmental impact, improving flexibility and significantly reducing fuel consumption, with a propulsion system featuring a single-screw DF main engine and an all-battery /UPS power design to prevent power outages. Essberger Group and Stolt Tankers formed a joint venture, E&S Tankers, last year to operate a chemical ship trading business in Europe. E&S Tankers currently operates all 34 of the Essberger Group's chemical vessels operating in North West Europe and the Mediterranean. Yangzhou Jinling, formerly known as AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., mainly builds special ships with high added value and is committed to building a production base for high-end stainless steel chemical ships and small and medium-sized liquid cargo ships. It is one of the best shipyards in the subdivision field of small and medium-sized chemical ships under 30,000 tons in the world. According to Clarkson's data, Yangzhou Jinling has orders for 15 126,366 DWT vessels, including one asphalt carrier, two small LPG carriers and 12 chemicals carriers, with delivery dates stretching until 2023 |
