The orders received and the orders held both reached a record high, marking the centenary of the Communist Party of China with outstanding results.
On June 30, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group announced that it had received orders for 11 new ships, including six 15000TEU container ships, three 3300TEU container ships and two 82300 DWT bulk carriers, for a total of $871 million. So far, the Yangtze River shipping industry received new orders of 100 ships in the first half of the year, a total of more than 5.5 billion US dollars, a total of 160 ships in the order of 7.72 billion US dollars, an innovative order to receive a record high, but also set a record high hand orders.
The six new 15,000TEU container ships will be delivered in the first half of 2024 by Seaspan Corporation, a long-time customer of the Yangtze River Shipbuilding Industry. Seaspan had already announced on June 28 that it was ordering six 15,000 TEU container ships, which will be equipped with desulfurization devices and delivered under a long-term charter agreement with a leading global shipping company.
In addition, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding's latest three 3300TEU container ships are from Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. On June 28, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. won the bid for Ningbo Cosco's 3 3300TEU container ship construction project. The new ship is scheduled for full delivery between late 2023 and early 2024.
In addition, the two new 82300DWT bulk carriers from Japan's Mitsui Shipyard will be built by Mitsui Shipyard, a joint venture between Mitsui and Yangzijiang Shipyard. Each vessel will cost about $32 million and is scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2023.
With the latest 11 orders, the first half of this year has set a new record for the industry, with a total of 100 ships worth $5.59 billion, surpassing the record of $4.97 billion for all of 2007.
To date, Yangzijiang Shipping has ordered 160 ships worth US $7.72 billion, also a new record in the group's history. Yangzijiang's previous high point for hand-held orders was in late 2007 and 2008, when hand-held orders reached $6.9 billion.
