On the morning of July 28, 2020, the South China Sea Rescue Bureau's 14000kW large cruise rescue ship (upgraded version) construction project undertaken by China Merchants Heavy Industries (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. successfully held a groundbreaking ceremony at the Mazhou Island base hull workshop. Relevant leaders of the South China Sea Rescue Bureau, Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration, Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration, China Classification Society Guangzhou Branch, Guangzhou Salvage Bureau, Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute and other units attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Yangzhi, general manager of China Merchants Heavy Industries (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.

The 14000kW large cruise rescue vessel (upgraded version) developed and designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute under China Shipbuilding Corporation for the South China Sea Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Transport is a new development based on the successful design and construction of 8000kW and 14000kW marine rescue ships. The world’s most advanced deep sea all-weather high-power multi-functional comprehensive three-dimensional rescue ship, which can independently undertake deep-water emergency rescue operations, will provide safety guarantees for South China Sea marine transportation, deep-water oil and gas resource development, etc., and can participate in global maritime search and rescue and international rescue operations. Ensure the safety of China's maritime transport channels and safeguard the country's overseas interests.

The ship is 136.9 meters long, 26.7 meters wide, and 11 meters deep. After completion, it will be equipped with surface search and rescue, deep sea towing rescue, sea and air three-dimensional search and rescue, emergency rescue and rescue, external fire fighting, information transmission and emergency command, environmental monitoring The functions of protection, deep-water scanning, rescue and rescue, saturation diving, underwater rescue and salvage operations, and external emergency supply will perform the search and rescue of persons, ships and aircraft in distress on the South China Sea. The ship is designed with three cabins, featuring high speed and high towing force. It is equipped with special equipment such as DP3 dynamic positioning system, full-sea deep multi-beam system, underwater robot, deep towing system and 250-ton crane with heave compensation capability. .

For a long time, the Shanghai Shipyard has implemented the maritime power strategy. In order to meet the requirements of the maritime rescue industry in the new era, it has developed and designed rescue ships of 4000kW, 8000kW and 14000kW to help my country's maritime rescue industry move toward the deep blue. The start of construction of the 14000kW large cruise rescue ship (upgraded version) means that the Shanghai Shipyard has taken another solid step on the way to build the "SDARI" brand by independently designing the deep sea rescue ship.

This is the first upgraded large cruise rescue ship built by China. It will add new weapons for my country to perform the search and rescue of people, ships and aircraft in distress in the South China Sea, participate in global maritime search and rescue and international rescue operations, and cooperate with the maintenance of national maritime rights and interests.
