Maersk drilling vessel charter wins record for offshore drilling depth
Maersk Drilling said that the seventh-generation ultra-deepwater drilling vessel "Maersk Voyager" won a contract from Total and will be responsible for the exploration and drilling of three oil wells in Angola and Namibia offshore, with a contract value of approximately 46.3 million US dollars. Among them, "Maersk Voyager" will drill two oil wells in Block 32 and Block 48 of Angola offshore, and drill an oil price in Namibia offshore. Maersk Drilling pointed out that the oil well in Block 48 of Angola had a water depth of 3628 meters, so "Maersk Voyager" will conduct a deepwater exploration with the largest water depth in history. It is worth mentioning that the current holder of this record is also Maersk Drilling. In 2016, Maersk Voyager's sister ship, Maersk Venturer, drilled a Raya-1 oil well for Total in the Uruguay Sea. The oil well had a water depth of 3400 meters. It is understood that "Maersk Voyager" is a high-spec ultra-deepwater drilling vessel, which was delivered in 2014 and was built by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries. The ship can operate in the depth of 3600 meters, and can withstand wind speeds of 100 knots per hour and huge waves of nearly 15 meters. This is the last of a series of four ultra-deepwater drilling vessels drilled by Maersk, with a total investment of up to $ 2.6 billio. |
