Chinese shipbuilding new ship orders surpassed South Korea to top the list
According to Korean media reports, according to Clarkson's latest data, the global new ship orders in April totaled 1.21 million CGT, which was more than half of the 2.88 million CGT in March. Among them, Chinese shipping companies received orders for 28 new ships, totaling 770,000 CGT, accounting for 64% of the global market share, ranking first in the world. At the same time, the number of orders received by Korean shipping companies in April was significantly behind that of China, with a total of 7 ships and 280,000 CGTs, accounting for 23% of the global market share, ranking second. Japanese shipbuilding companies ranked third in the world in April, with a total of three ships and 60,000 CGT. In January of this year, the number of new orders received by Chinese shipbuilding enterprises ranked first. After South Korea’s second place in China, South Korea overtook China in February and was again overtaken by China in March. Since March, the number of orders received by Chinese ship companies has led South Korea for the second consecutive month. In the first four months of this year, the number of orders received by Chinese ship companies reached 140 ships and 3.44 million CGTs, ranking the first in the world. The second-ranked Korean ship companies received a total of 45 ships and 2.02 million CGTs. As of the end of April, China's shipping companies still ranked first in the world in terms of hand-held orders, reaching 29.96 million CGT, accounting for 37% of the global market. Ranked second is the Korean shipping company, with a total of 20.98 million CGT, accounting for 26% of the global market share. Japanese shipping companies ranked third with a total of 13.97 million CGT, accounting for 17%. It is worth mentioning that among the three countries of China, Japan and Korea, only the number of orders held by Chinese shipbuilding companies has increased compared with that of March, while the orders held by Japan and South Korea have experienced different degrees of decline. South Korean shipbuilding industry people have previously said that Chinese ship companies received a large number of orders from their shipowners in the first quarter of this year, resulting in orders from Korean ship companies behind Chinese ship companies, but after entering April, Korean ship companies will speed up orders. At the same time, with the gradual release of orders for LNG ships and offshore equipment, Korean ship companies are expected to surpass China again.
