Samsung Heavy Industries announced on December 22 that the company had received orders for two LNG ships from shipowners in Oceania, with a total contract value of 403.5 billion won (approximately US$365.4 million). The two new ships will be delivered before September 2024.
This is the second batch of LNG ship orders successfully undertaken by Samsung Heavy Industries in two days. On December 21, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it had received an order for two LNG ships with a total contract value of 408.2 billion won (approximately US$371.5 million) from the shipowner in Oceania.
Including this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has taken orders for 32 new ships this year, with a total value of US$4.8 billion, fulfilling 57% of the company's target of US$8.4 billion in operating orders this year.
A relevant person from Samsung Heavy Industries emphasized: “After entering the second half of the year, the new shipbuilding market that has been frozen due to the new crown pneumonia epidemic is gradually recovering a bit of warmth.
