China Shipbuilding Power has received orders for 75 dual-fuel super engines
Engine is the heart of a ship. The research team of CSSC has overcome the technical difficulties and successfully developed the world's largest dual-fuel engine. A year later, 75 orders have been placed for the superengine.
Qiu Chunhua, Deputy General Manager of China Shipbuilding Power Group: From technology to market, everyone has a wait-and-see or a hovering or even skeptical perspective. After continuous verification and improvement, after the verification of the real ship, the technical side, the classification society, the shipowner and the market side accept one after another, which is also a process of gradual acceptance of the market and continuous improvement of technology.
Qiu Chunhua said that the process of going to market is actually a process of overcoming technical problems. Especially in the final sprint of R&D and construction, the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 disrupted the normal order of life and production. The delivery date of aircraft and ship is imminent. In order to gain time, the joint team of R&D, manufacturing and service are doing experiments 24 hours a day. They worked in two shifts of 12 hours each, verifying various technical parameters on the production line during the day, and working without rest at night. They discussed, analyzed and adjusted technical solutions with the European team remotely, so as to ensure that the host machine could be tested and adjusted normally during the epidemic.
Gao Zhonglong, commissioning engineer in charge of China Shippower's operations support department, said: 'The working hours are basically not fixed. We will go to the shipyard for dock commissioning and take part in sea trial until the ship is delivered. Especially now because of the epidemic, the European team cannot come to the scene. In order to overcome the problem of jet lag, most of our working time is at night, and we cannot rest.
For this very large engine, there are tens of thousands of parts. Because of the epidemic, imported parts can't get in, and it's not feasible to go out and buy them. During the whole development process, the test plan was delayed several times due to the failure of imported parts to be replenished in time. Peng Hui, as a technical expert, sorted out the possible problem points of "jammed neck" from tens of thousands of parts, organized experts and domestic supporting manufacturers to communicate and discuss together, formulated the localization development plan of parts and components, and broke down the difficult problems of "jammed neck" parts and components matching one by one.
Qiu Chunhua, deputy general manager of China Shipbuilding Power Group, said that in the future our main direction will be to stick to the basis of dual-fuel main engine. We will further improve our technology and make further research and development towards low carbon or even zero carbon fuels for fuel diversity. Launching more products to meet the market demand is the requirement of the country and also our mission as a central enterprise.
Qiu Chunhua told reporters that the latest exhaust gas recycling intelligent control technology has been launched, the engine's fuel consumption, gas consumption and methane escape will be further reduced. At present, Chinese ships occupy an absolute advantage in the market share of large cylinder diameter dual-fuel engines.
