Petronas plans to build the third FLNG
Adnan Zainal Abidin, Executive Vice President and CEO of Petronas Malaysia ’s Natural Gas and New Energy Business, recently revealed to local media that if there is a gas field with considerable reserves and a suitable natural gas structure that is economically feasible, then Petronas Malaysia is likely to Build another FLNG unit. At present, Petronas Malaysia is the only company in the world that owns and operates two FLNGs, of which the first "PFLNG Satu" was put into operation in 2017, and the second "PFLNG Dua" has just held a naming ceremony at Samsung Heavy Industries and is about to Delivery will start in February 2020. Although both the "PFLNG Satu" and "PFLNG Dua" are deployed offshore Malaysia, the third FLNG may be deployed in other regions. Currently, Petronas Malaysia is considering choosing Mexico, Brazil and West Africa. Abidin pointed out that FLNG can also be deployed on the shore to extract natural gas required for LNG production from onshore gas fields; in this case, if relocation is required, FLNG can be removed directly. Thanks to the extensive experience accumulated during the construction of the first two FLNGs, the construction cost of Petronas Malaysia's third FLNG will also be lower. Abidin said Petronas has more than 40 years of experience in LNG business and has participated in the design, construction and operation of FLNG. More importantly, the environmental footprint of FLNG will be much smaller compared to land facilities. |
