GTT has received an order to design 12 LNG storage tanks for container ships from a Chinese shipyard
GTT has announced that it has been selected to design cryogenic fuel storage tanks for 12 new LNG-powered container ships of the CAFI Group. The design order comes from two Chinese shipyards, Hudong Zhonghua and Jiangnan Shipbuilding, which will each build six dual-fuel container ships. Among them, Jiangnan Shipbuilding has 6 15000TEU dual-fuel container ships and Hudong Zhonghua has 6 13000TEU dual-fuel container ships. Both of these two types of ships use GTT Mark III liquid cargo containment system and carry WINGD dual-fuel engines 10X92DF2.1 and 9X92DF2.1 respectively. On April 30, China State Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, joined forces with Jiangnan Shipbuilding, Hudong Zhonghua and Qingdao Beishuangshi Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, to undertake a total of 22 container ships of CAFC Type 3. The 12 new ships included are scheduled for delivery between the fourth quarter of 2023 and the third quarter of 2024. The tanks will be equipped with GTT's Mark III membrane containment technology and will be capable of carrying 14,000 cubic meters of LNG, the company said. Philippe Berterottiere, chairman and chief executive officer of GTT, said CMA had selected GTT's technology for LNG-powered propulsion for its nine container ships in 2017 and five in 2019. CAFI plans to increase its fleet of LNG-powered container ships to 44 by 2024. |
