Built by Chinese shipyard! SBM has been awarded the fourth FPSO in Petrobras' Mero field
Dutch floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) operator SBM Offshore has signed an agreement of intent with Petrobras to supply one FPSO for a 22.5-year lease in petrobras' Mero field. The FPSO, named Alexandre de Gusmao, is the fourth FPSO in the Mero field and is located about 160 km from Arraial do Cabo in Rio de Janeiro state. The Libra block, where Mero is located, is 40 per cent owned by Petrobras, 20 per cent by Shell, 20 per cent by Total, 10 per cent by Cnooc and 10 per cent each by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNODC). The Libra block's partners have made final investment decisions on the FPSO project. The Alexandre de Gusmao will use its original "general-purpose" Fast4Ward hull design concept, and SBM has decided to use its fifth Fast4Ward hull under construction in China for the project, SBM said. The FPSO is expected to be completed in 2024 and begin production in 2025. The Alexandre de Gusmao is designed to produce 180,000 barrels of oil per day, handle 12 million standard cubic meters of gas, inject 250,000 barrels of water per day and store a minimum of 1.4 million barrels of crude oil. The FPSO will be moored in approximately 1,900 metres of water and will connect 15 Wells to the FPSO through subsea infrastructure consisting of rigid production and water injection pipelines and flexible service pipelines. "The signing of this letter of intent marks our second major project of the year from our major customer, Petrobras," said Bruno Chabas, CHIEF executive officer of SBM. In July, SBM signed a 26.25-year contract with Petrobras for the sixth FPSO, Almirante Tamandare, in the Buzios field. The FPSO, also designed with the Fast4Ward hull concept, is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2024 and will be Brazil's largest FPSO. To date, SBM has ordered a total of six Fast4Ward FPsos at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Merchant Industries. Among them, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding's first Liza Unity was delivered in late 2019, the second in August 2020, and the other two are under construction in an orderly manner. CMC's first Vessel, the SEPTIBA, was delivered in July and is petrobras' second FPSO in the Mero field on a 22.5-year lease. SBM Offshore currently operates seven FPsos in Brazil. |
