According to clarkson data statistics, as of July 20, there are 840 new ship orders in the first half of 2021, with a total of 24897628CGT. Among them, the top 20 shipbuilders in the world have signed 558 new ship orders, with a total of 20678687CGT. Number of vessels and CGT accounted for 66.43% and 83.05% of total new vessel orders in the first half of 2021, respectively.
Among the TOP20 shipbuilders in the world, there are 11 Chinese yards, 6 Korean yards, 2 Japanese yards and 1 Vietnamese yard.
Data statistics show that in terms of the three main ship types, the number of new orders signed by bulk carriers, tankers (including chemical tankers, the same below) and container ships in the first half of 2021 is 130, 161 and 324. Among them, the number of new orders signed by the Top 20 shipyards in the world for bulk carriers, oil tankers (including chemical tankers) and container ships is 62, 106 and 280 respectively, accounting for 47.69%, 65.84% and 86.42% of the number of new orders signed by the Top 20 shipyards in the world for bulk carriers, oil tankers and container ships, respectively.
Bulk cargo ship orders in China have up to nine
Data show that in the first half of 2021, 130 new bulk carrier orders with a total of 12,646,092 DWT were signed. Among them, 85 new orders were signed by the top 10 shipbuilders of global bulk carriers with a total of 9697,412 DWT. The number of ships and DWT accounted for 65.38% and 76.68% of the total new bulk carrier orders in the first half of 2021, respectively.
Among the TOP10 bulk carrier shipyards, there are 9 Chinese shipyards and 1 Japanese shipyard.
Specifically, there are 29 Capesize bulk carriers (100KDWT+), 58 Panamaxia bulk carriers (65kDWT-100KDWT), 35 big convenience bulk carriers (40kDWT-65KDWT), and 8 convenience bulk carriers (10KDWT-40kDWT).
As many as seven Korean tankers have been ordered
In the first half of 2021, there were 161 new tanker orders with a total of 16,390,407 DWT. Among them, the top 10 shipbuilders in the world signed 104 new orders with a total of 14,323,600 DWT. The number of vessels and DWT accounted for 64.60% and 87.39% of the total new tanker orders in the first half of 2021, respectively.
Among the TOP10 oil tanker shipbuilders, there is 1 Chinese shipyard, 1 Japanese shipyard, 7 Korean shipyards and 1 Vietnamese shipyard.
Specifically, 31 VLCC(200KDWT+), 8 Suez type (125kDWT-200KDWT), 21 Afra type (85kDWT-125KDWT), 71 Flexible type (10KDWT-55kDWT), Small oil tanker (0kDWT-10KDWT) 30.
Container ship orders are dominated by Chinese and Korean shipyards
In the first half of 2021, 324 new container ships were ordered, totaling 2976278 TEUS. Among them, the top 10 container ship shipyards in the world signed 198 new orders, totaling 2510,188 TEus. The number of vessels and TEUs accounted for 61.11% and 84.34% of the total container ship new orders in the first half of 2021, respectively.
Among the TOP10 container ship shipyards, there are 6 Chinese shipyards, 1 Japanese shipyard and 3 Korean shipyards.
Specifically, there are 154 ultrapamanian container ships (8KTEU+), 83 Panamanian container ships (3KTEU-8KTEU), 20 sub-Panamanian container ships (2KTEU-3KTEU) and 67 flexible container ships (1KTEU-2KTEU).
